Katie grew up in a small town near Taree, loves the outdoor lifestyle on offer on the Coffs Coast, and loves to cook! She is also an expert on helping people make healthy choices when it comes to food and nutrition. No matter whether you need help with nutrition relating to diabetes, weight loss, allergies and intolerances, sports performance or many other things, Katie can help.
1. What do you love most about your job/industry?
I love helping people to find a realistic, long-term approach to living a healthy lifestyle, while still finding enjoyment in food – whether this means teaching people new cooking techniques or skills, or providing them with education on healthy options.
I am also very passionate about helping people to debunk nutrition myths and misinformation that is so readily available in the media. It is one of the most rewarding feelings seeing an individual reach their health goal and knowing that you have helped.
2. Areas of interest?
I am particularly interested in the areas of allergies and intolerances, diabetes and sports nutrition (especially in junior athletes).
3. Your top tip
The importance of sleep is often under-estimated for overall mental and physical health – aim for 6-8 hours per day.
Eat all foods in moderation – there is no such thing as good and bad foods, rather nutritious and less nutritious options that all still have a place in our diet.
4. People would be surprised if they knew…
I can bake a mean apple crumble and caramel slice. I also have pet cows who all have names and eat out of my hand.
